Porifarma BV - NetherlandsTeam leader: Dr. Jasper de GoeijPorifarma's mission is to develop technologies for the sustainable production of marine sponges. Porifarma BV was registered at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in 2005. In the same year, the company initiated and started an FP6 Cooperative Project (SPONGES), through which innovative concepts for sponge culture were developed (patent applied for). Porifarma has initiated sponge aquaculture activities in the East Mediterranean (Turkey). In 2007, Jasper de Goeij joined the company as the new CEO. Based upon the recent work of Dr De Goeij on sponge cell kinetics, Porifarma has started to develop a novel technique for the production of sponge materials.
