Team leader: Prof. Dr. Werner E.G. Müller

The research group headed by Werner EG Müller has a long-term experience in sponge molecular biology and evolution. This group is world-wide leading in the field of biomineralisation in sponges. WEG Müller is head of the German Center of Excellence on Marine Molecular Biotechnology (BIOTECmarin) and coordinated several European projects in FP4 – FP7, among them FP5 SILIBIOTEC - Silicon biotechnology, FP6 BIO-LITHO - Biomineralization for lithography and microelectronics; FP6 SPONGES; and FP7 Mem-S - Bottom-up design and fabrication of industrial bio-inorganic nano-porous membranes with novel functionalities based on principles of protein self-assembly and biomineralization; and also was / is coordinator of Marie Curie Networks (FP6 MCRTN BIOCAPITAL, and FP7 MCITN BIOMINTEC - Biomineralization: Understanding of basic mechanisms for the design of novel strategies in nanobiotechnology).
