NanotecMARIN GmbH - GermanyTeam leader: Prof. Dr. Dr. Heinz C. SchröderNanotecMARIN GmbH is a newly (2007) founded start-up located in Mainz. In 2008, this SME succeeded to find a partner from big industry, which is interested in the application of the biosilica nanolayer technology, developed by the company in cooperation with UMC. Based on these developments, the number of shareholders of the company had been increased. In particular, the former German Minister for Research and Technology, Prof. Dr. Heinz Riesenhuber could be attracted, who is member of the advisory board of a series of companies in Germany and other countries. The main focus of NanotecMARIN GmbH is the exploitation of the enzymes involved in biosilica metabolism, which are protected by patents, together with commercial partners. An area of special interest is the formation of biomaterials, in particular nanobiomaterials, by proteins isolated and cloned from aquatic invertebrates.
