1st SPECIAL Open day - Marine Biotechnology

Genoa 28 October 2011

Targeting graduates and undergraduates, the first SPECIAL Open day will be held in Genoa (Italy) on October 28th 2011, in the frame of the Genoa Science Festival.

The Open day will be a unique opportunity for grads/undergrads to meet the leading scientists of the SPECIAL project as well as PhD students working in their labs. The day will be structured in a very informal way thus promoting the direct interaction between undergrads/grads, PhD students and primary investigators. Undergrads/grads may present their work as a poster and are encouraged to bring along cv and other material they deem relevant to introduce themselves.

Four key-notes will be introduced by Prof. Rui L. Reis (biopolymers), Prof. Werner Müller (marine nanobiotechnology), Dr. Andrea Alimonti (anticancer approaches) and by Prof. Emilio Carpenè, Prof. Giancarlo Falcioni and Prof. Alida Ferlazzo (Italian marine biochemistry). Additional oral presentations by PhD students working on the project will be given in the afternoon. The whole SPECIAL consortium will be attending.

The Open day will also feature a session dedicated to the Marine & Environmental Unit (BMA) of the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SIB).

Genoa may be easily reached with a number of low-cost flights. One youth hostel and several cheap hotels are available for students travelling on a low budget. A simple buffet will be given during the Open day.
